Are you fully present in life or are you fully absent? Is your mind always in the past or the future and rarely here in the now? Do you spend time worrying? Do you fear? Today’s quote is by Phil Jackson, the great basketball player and coach. We most know him as the now retired coach of the Lakers. It’s his birthday today. He says:
In basketball – as in life – true joy comes from being fully present in each and every moment, not just when things are going your way.
At this moment, everything is okay. Everything you need for this moment in time, you have already. The past does not matter. The future is being created by what you are thinking and feeling the most. What is that? Is it power-full and positive? Is it fear-full and negative? As Phil Jackson tells us, true joy comes from being fully present in each and every moment.
For today, let’s remember to bring ourselves back to this moment. Let’s remind ourselves to stay fully present in what is happening around us, even when it’s less than pleasant. Life is like a wheel and it’s always turning. There is day and there is night. There is dark and there is light. Good times will come and bad times will come. Every moment is a lesson. Everything that comes into our path is for our benefit, even when it’s something that could be perceived as the most awful thing that has ever happened to us or those around us. The Christian Bible reminds us that “this too shall pass”. Come back to now. Our goal for today is to stay fully present in each and every thing that we are doing or that happens to us or around us. Breathe often and deeply. Make this a remarkable day!
